Corozal Town ♦ Belize ♦ Central America

The town of Corozal is the perfect jumping-off point to explore Belize … and even to roam farther afield into Mexico’s Yucatán.

Here are some ideas to get you started! We can help you organize any of these exciting “field trips”, departing from the doorstep of Las Palmas Hotel, and have you back in time for dinner.

Day Trips From Corozal

Maya Ruins at Cerros Take a hand-cranked ferry across the New River to explore the ancient Maya ruins at Cerros, then reward yourself with lunch and a swim at the Last Resort restaurant on beautiful Laguna Seca.

A Day on the Island Hop aboard the Thunderbolt water taxi — or fly from Corozal’s own airport — and spend the day in colorful San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye. Schedule a snorkeling expedition to Hol Chan or Mexico Rocks, then use the money you save staying with us <grin> to splurge on a gourmet meal at one of the island’s many fine restaurants (we’ll be happy to recommend the best).

Discovery Channel Explore the wondrous natural beauty of Belize as you float along the New River through the jungle to the Maya ruins of Lamanai, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Belize.

Along the way, you can observe and photograph exotic birds, tropical flowers, lurking crocodiles and troops of howler monkeys.

City Culture Cross the border into Mexico — it’s only 10 minutes from town! — and tour Chetumal, the laid-back tropical capital of the Yucatán Peninsula. Visit the Museum of Maya Culture, one of Mexico’s best, then shop your way down Avenida Heroes and dine on sizzling fajitas  (known locally as arracheras) by the scenic bay.
